
Anamata is a Tūhoe-mandated tertiary institute, committed to providing quality education services and vocational training, which will grow leaders in its community. Specialist programmes promote and set standards of excellence in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga Tūhoe.
Established in 1995 by its governing body Anamata Charitable Trust, Anamata was developed to improve the educational achievement and aspirations of Māori in the Bay of Plenty, in particular Tūhoe Māori.
Students come to Anamata because of the whānaungatanga they experience in the learning environment, and for the quality of the education they gain. Anamata was recently ranked ninth out of 23 other tertiary institutes for the quality of their research. Anamata has specialist experts on the academic staff, such as Dr Patu Hohepa who teaches on the Bachelor of Te Reo Māori, the only degree of its kind in Aotearoa.
