ITI welcomes applications from potential members who support what we do, but we were surprised to see a recent proposal from another PTE peak body, NZAPEP, that all private training establishments (PTEs) should have to join a peak body. They argued that non-member PTEs were getting a free ride.
ITI believes that our members should have to demonstrate that they are doing a good job in order to attract students, government subsidies for those students or employers' support - we do not believe that they have a right to funding simply because they exist. Given that position, we feel that it would be hypocritical for us to then argue for a protected market for ITI. We acknowledge that some PTEs may be free riding on the work of peak bodies, but we won't be seeking a free ride for ourselves in response to that - most PTEs that receive government funding belong to one peak body or another anyway.
Given all of that, we are proud to announce that International Travel College has become a full member of ITI - they will be profiled in the next newsletter.
