The latest Grad Dip Game Development class has just finished at Media Design School, producing their title piece, ‘Roadblock’. The physics-based platform racing game is yet to be judged officially by the industry panel but has led for four out of the six team members landing jobs with New Zealand’s largest Games Studio, Sidhe Interactive.
Course Leader Brendan Burns says ,“The positive outcome is testament to the demand for polished game developers in the industry. We are very happy for the Roadblock team as well as our future graduates. With studios like Sidhe landing epic international deals, it’s a great time to get into games in New Zealand, not to mention internationally.”
The game ‘Roadblock’, was designed by four artists and two programmers and inspired by Nintendo's Mario Kart. Players will be able to choose from eight different vehicle types and over fifty skins and race in four different themed environments against AI opponents. The game also features a unique, real-time power-up purchasing system with five different power-ups: mines, missiles, speed boosts, double jumps, and fake cash.
