Scholarship Equity for PTE Students Thursday October 30, 2008

The long-standing bias against students studying towards their early childhood education teacher training qualifications in private training establishments has finally been removed.

The current Minister of Education, Hon Chris Carter, has reversed the decisions of his predecessors by moving to allow students who study at PTEs to qualify for both ECE Study Grants and TeachNZ Teacher Recruitment Scholarships (ECE) from 2009 onwards.

Students who wish to switch to a PTE during their study need to apply to TeachNZ to transfer their scholarship to another approved provider.  As long as the PTE is now an approved provider they would be eligible to continue their study with the PTE.

The application forms for 2009 scholarships and grants and all related promotional will include advice to this effect.

This move finally gives equity to all students by supporting them in their choice of training establishment.
