Laidlaw College and MASTERS Institute are to merge, creating a brand new School of Education for Laidlaw.
MASTERS Institute was established in 1993 under Dr Beverly Norsworthy as a Christian teacher preparation course for primary and intermediate teachers in state, private and integrated schools in New Zealand. For the past two years MASTERS Institute has been operating from the Laidlaw campus in Henderson.
The well-established MASTERS team will officially join the Schools of Theology, Counseling, Mission and Ministry and the Laidlaw Carey Graduate School on 1 January 2009. Around 70 first, second and third year primary teacher trainees will start their 2009 training on the Henderson Campus, combining with close to 500 Laidlaw College students.
While residential students from both colleges already share accommodation, students report that joining the two campuses will diversify and invigorate their conversations. Ash Taylor, the outgoing CEO of MASTERS Institute is keen to maintain the current vibrancy of the college and “to capitalise on the strengths of both organisations."
