Media Design School’s 48HOURS Win Monday June 29, 2009
The Media Design School animation team, Half Full, took out the Auckland 48HOURS film award for Best Animation.

The team made the 48-hour deadline with just 10 minutes to spare. This was the second year Half Full had entered a film into the competition. This year’s group consisted of 40 people and dedicated teams of modellers and animators working hard behind the scenes.

An innovative purpose-built production pipeline rivalling those of major studios like Photon Animation, allowed everything to be updated in real time. The scripts used for the production pipeline meant everyone worked locally, and when they finished modeling or animating, the press of a button would send a specifically named version of their file to the server, where the lighting team would take it and pass it onto rendering. The system ran smoothly and saved a huge amount of time.

The 3D Animation short film features some very sophisticated character animation, particularly for such a short production period.
