Something Fishy at MDS
Monday January 25, 2010
At the end of last year, Media Design School’s February 2009 intake of the Graduate Diploma of Advanced 3D Productions had four weeks to create a live action movie. Slightly Fishy is testament to that challenge.
James Cunningham, new course leader of the 3D faculty and director of the recent award-winning short film: Poppy wrote the story. It deals with a fisherman being attacked by giant sea animals at the end of a rather standard shift at work.
The team of 11 students worked towards their shoot on 25 November and had a first edit of their short film by the morning of the 30th. This left them two weeks to produce their final master with the final short film fully completed on the 17th of December.
James says, “I wrote the script and as we prepped for the shoot the team started learning the skills they would need for the project, like match-moving and HDRI capture and lighting. The team also went away and did creature design work and when the creatures were chosen they started building them for the shots. The whole team were very exciting and really got in behind the production.”
They have now completed their year on the graduate qualification and are all hoping to find work in the film and visual effects industry. We wish them all the best of luck and suggest you click here to watch their fishy tale! Slightly Fishy
