NZMA Student's Graduation Speech Friday June 16, 2006

A farewell speech to his class by Martin, a student at New Zealand Management Academies' Henderson Academy, gives a good insight into students' response to ITI members' style. Martin graduated from a Business Administration programme and is now employed as a Customer Service Representative for a Computer Software Company in Auckland.

Hi
My name is Martin and I am proud to be a New Zealand Management Academies Business Admin. graduate.

Today is my last day at NZMA.  My time here has taught me many things that aren’t included in the workbooks. The atmosphere and dynamics between the people at this academy are special and hard to find.

I came here after an unhappy semester at university, expecting a routine not unlike school.  I was pleasantly surprised to find a more personal institution where you get treated as an individual and not just a number. My faith in learning was restored within the first week of being at NZMA.

It was easier for me to find the motivation to attend and to work hard because I was surrounded by friendly, warm, caring people.

My tutor has amazed and reassured me by her endless amount of patience, time and good humour.  She actually cares about what you did in your weekend or whether your kids have been sick – something which gets rarer as organisations get bigger and more formal.

I’m going to miss everyone here.  While I am very excited about my new job and moving forward, I will always look back on the time I spent here as invaluable and unforgettable.

I hope you appreciate this experience as much as I have because, as Aristotle once said, “Education is what survives when what has been learned has been forgotten.”

Thanks for your time and good luck!
