New Zealand's Top Creative Talent Monday July 31, 2006

Media Design School graduate Scott Maddox and his creative partner Fraser Grant have won this year's Young Creative of the Year Competition. The national competition will decide who will represent New Zealand in the Young Creatives component of the Cannes International Advertising Festival in June.

Scott, a recent graduate of Media Design School's creative advertising course (AXIS Adschool) went on placement at Auckland-based agency Colenso BBDO soon after graduating. Scott, a talented Art Director paired up with Copywriter Fraser Grant and the team went on to produce some outstanding work for Colenso's clients including V, Air New Zealand, Fisher & Paykel and TV3.

Their biggest achievement to date is being selected as the winning young creative team for 2006. As the winning team, the talented duo will represent New Zealand at the Cannes Lions 53rd International Advertising Festival in France in the international 'Young Creative' competition. They will be competing against the best young creatives from over 30 countries for the advertising industry's most sought after prize - a Cannes Lion. The Cannes International Advertising Festival is the premier global event for creativity in advertising. For an advertising creative, a Cannes Lion is the highest accolade one can achieve.

The 43 New Zealand teams who entered the competition had two weeks to create a newspaper ad that demonstrated why newspapers are the most powerful advertising tool. Scott believes it is the simplicity of their concept that appealed to the judges. "I was walking to work one day and noticed a paper in a letter box that said ‘no advertising material’ and the concept evolved from there," explains Scott. Scott and Grant can't wait to get to Cannes to challenge themselves on the international stage.
