Welcome to the July 2008 newsletter of Independent Tertiary Institutions (ITI).
As a peak body in the private tertiary education sector, much of ITI's work involves helping our members work through issues with Government policies and procedures. We often get involved only when something is not working properly. That is why it is so important we use this monthly email newsletter to highlight just some of the instances where our members are excelling in their fields. Too often, we tend not to take the time to celebrate our successes these days.
The big news this issue is that on Saturday 2 August the Bible College of New Zealand will unveil it's new name and outline plans regarding how they can help address some of the issues we face in New Zealand society. It's going to be an absolutely huge event with John Hawkesby acting as MC for the night. The Bible College have successfully kept the new name under wraps - even the Executive Director of ITI is still in the dark!
As part of their studies, students from the call centre course at New Zealand Management Academies all spend some time working for a charity. This year, the students raised money for LifeLine. This is a perfect example of giving back to the community - the students gain real work experience while raising money for a good cause.
The Media Design School has been hit by yet another flurry of awards. This time, students and alumni from their Axis AdSchool have picked up a number of top prizes both here and abroad. Their success is a reflection of the quality of the education they enjoyed at the school.
Finally for this month, we take a sneak preview of a new book by Jonathan Milne, the head of The Learning Connexion in Wellington. His book, GO! The Art of Change, is a 550-page look at art and creativity and represents over six years of his work. ITI wishes Jonathan every success with his book.
