ITI ITI Newsletter - January 2009

Welcome to the first issue of the Independent Tertiary Institutions (ITI) monthly newsletter for 2009.  I hope readers had an enjoyable and restful break before what promises to be a busy and challenging new year.

Even to us non-economists it is clear that New Zealand is heading into tough economic times.  During these periods it is more important than ever that we focus on raising the skills and abilities of all learners.  ITI members will be playing an important role in this process.

In this newsletter we are delighted to welcome on board the New Zealand Career College as a new member.  We present a profile of the College and its chief executive Feroz Ali.

There are two further pieces showcasing innovation and excellence in education.  Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design has teamed up with Waiariki Institute of Technology to offer a unique Fine Arts course.  This is a positive example of collaboration between institutions.  Laidlaw College is also offering four new hybrid courses which re-work the relationship between on-line and in-class work.
