ITI ITI Newsletter - December 2009

Good afternoon and welcome to the final newsletter for 2009 from Independent Tertiary Institutions (ITI).  ITI is a recognised peak body representing a diverse range of large, high-quality private tertiary education providers.  Each month, we look to share some of the best stories of learner success from our members.

In this issue, New Zealand Management Academies (NZMA) is delighted to have been selected as one of just 10 PTEs to deliver the Government's flagship Youth Guarantee scheme next year.  Students at Natcoll have tasted success in the competition to design a new look for the C4 television channel.  Finally, learners at the Media Design School have created a real stir with their viral campaigns, including generating local and international media coverage.  This is one of the most creative (not to mention funniest) stories we have covered all year.

Looking back, 2009 has been a challenging year for ITI members.  While student demand has increased strongly, the Government is looking to control education expenditure which has created a genuine tension in the sector.  This looms as the biggest single issue  in 2010 and ITI and its members will be engaging with the Government to ensure we develop a path forward which offers the best support for learners.

ITI would like to thank all our newsletter readers for their interest and support over the last twelve months and to wish them and their families the very best over the holiday period.

Regards

Neil Miller
Executive Director

MDS Students Make an Impact “‘Viral’”, says the Media Design School website, “is a big thing in advertising, but it’s hard to do right.  Loading a video online doesn’t mean you’ve done viral.  But having that video viewed by millions (or in New Zealand’s case, thousands), having everybody talking about you and even ... more »
