New Zealand Management Academies

New Zealand Management Academies (NZMA) provides certificate and diploma level training in hospitality, business management and contact centre operations. NZMA aims to develop students’ potential to be the best they can be, backing that up with small classes, personal attention and extra support when required.

Founded in 1985, NZMA is owned and operated by Tim Cullinane with locations in Central Auckland, Henderson, Otahuhu and Hamilton. Students are supported by tutors with extensive industry experience, by student advisors at each Academy, and by employment coordinators for assistance with part-time and full-time positions. First BTEC Hospitality Diploma Students Graduate from NZMA
January 2012

New Zealand Management Academies (NZMA) recently celebrated the graduation of its first-ever intake of students onNZMA BTEC Grads 2011 the new Diploma in Hospitality Management Level 5.

This world-recognised diploma was introduced to NZMA at the beginning of 2011 and is accredited not just by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) but also by Edexcel, the largest awarding body in the UK. The qualifications are based on the globally respected Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) vocational qualifications.

Graduates of the programme gain both national and international qualifications, putting them in an excellent position to pursue their hospitality careers in the global marketplace. For those who want to go onto further study, NZMA has secured a host of guaranteed pathways to universities in New Zealand, Australia, Switzerland, the UK and the USA.

Auckland Central Academy Manager Tania FitzGerald said the graduation ceremony – which was held at the Academy’s Cafe Fusion – marked the end of an exciting year for NZMA students and staff alike.

“I and all the NZMA hospitality tutors were really excited to award diplomas to our first batch of BTEC Hospitality Management Diploma Level 5 students,” she said.

“These students now have not only a New Zealand qualification, but an international qualification from the UK that is accepted by institutions and employers around the world.  We look forward to hearing from them as they spread their wings and move out into the world.”

Thirty-five students graduated at the ceremony from a range of NZMA business and hospitality programmes, including eight from the new Diploma in Hospitality Management Level 5 and nine from the Diploma in Business Level 5. NZMA launched the Diploma in Business in February 2010 and, like the Diploma in Hospitality Management, it offers dual accreditation, is recognised both here and abroad and also enjoys a wide range of secured pathways to higher-level study.

NZMA’s Director of International and Business Development Mark Worsop believes the new programmes have put NZMA ahead of the pack when it comes to hospitality and business training.

“We wanted to provide our graduates with more options and opportunities for both employment and further study and not just in New Zealand, we wanted to provide global mobility,” he said.

“Our new diplomas provide pathways to degree programmes all over the world and the dual accreditations provide more international credibility and recognition.

“It is very exciting to see our first cohort of students graduate from the new Hospitality Diploma and even more satisfying to see so many progress onto the second year to complete their Level 6 qualification.”
