Pacific International Hotel Management School

At the Pacific International Hotel Management School (PIHMS) in New Plymouth, students benefit from world-class hospitality training. PIHMS aims to meet the demand for specialised hospitality management education and training by producing graduates with professional and personal skills at the highest level. The school provides a unique learning environment that gives students the right skills, knowledge and experience to take up a career in the hospitality industry anywhere in the world.

As well as academic study, students gain real experience from hands-on learning. First Graduation of Students on a Korean Government Study Scheme
February 2010

Twenty three students on a special Korean government scheme have graduated at the Pacific International Hotel Management School (PIHMS) with a Certificate in Hospitality Services.

The Korean students are the first group to come to PIHMS through an international study scheme offered by their government’s Labour Department.

The students, who are mainly from the Yeungjin College in Daegu, arrived in Taranaki in November to study English language and hospitality services. They all plan to stay on in New Zealand after graduation, either to study further at PIHMS or to gain work experience.

Principal, Dr Flora Gilkison, says the contract to provide this 16-week course to the Korean students has many benefits for the school and for the Taranaki region.  The students have really enjoyed their stay here and are bound to spread the good word about Taranaki back home.

PIHMS is looking forward to welcoming a further 90 Korean students on the scheme this year.

VIP guests at the Graduation Ceremony included Tae-Mun Kim, Professor in International Tourism Management at YeungJin College in Daegu, Korea; James Wong, Managing Director of Cambridge Academy and Craig Williams, Executive Director of Education Taranaki.
